Following with interest as my DS8 has, also since the beginning of Jan, had a cough that is only in the morning. Checked by GP at the end of Jan and all clear, but he still has a good cough in the morning to clear his otherwise clear-sounding chest.

My daughter has been coughing since December. GP says chest is clear and coughs can last 12 months!
The piriton one suggests potentially post nasal drip.

Did your GP also tell you how it becomes a chronic cough and how this is not normal? A cough that lasts for more than 8 weeks becomes a chronic cough: they used to worry about it before the pandemic with a virus, whose main symptom is just this, but now somehow it's all normal? This is how real medicine looks like: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/chronic-cough/symptoms-causes/syc-20351575 When children's health is important: ''A chest X-ray and spirometry, at a minimum, are typically ordered to find the cause of a chronic cough in children.'' (America) ''Determining the cause of chronic cough is crucial to effective treatment. In many cases, more than one underlying condition may be causing your chronic cough.''- but of course when a cough is normalized, then no need for investigations and the correct treatment
An insignificant detail: did your GP mention the outbreaks of whooping cough and covid - both notifiable diseases, both with cough as a main symptom? Did they test or rule out these 2 conditions first? Did they recommend any allergy tests https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hay-fever/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20373045 to rule out an allergy? Or condemning a child to 1 year of coughing was their only solution? What happens after 1 year: everything will suddenly stop as forecasted by a GP? Wouldn't it be better from any point of view to find out the cause and promote prevention of coughing, instead of promoting(normalizing) the cough?

@Mumof12607
Did you figure this out?
We are in week two of a stop/start cough that is worse at night in DS,4. Lovely early wake ups for us all when he starts coughing around 5.30 and he is grumpy and overtired from struggling to get to sleep and waking in the night.
Antihistamines sometimes work, sometimes not.

Hello! How old is your daughter? I gave my daughter mullein leaf drops when she had cough for almost 2 months and doctor couldn't find any reason. She was struggling at nights and especially in the mornings, the cough sounded awful. And these drops helped her to cough up and clear her lungs, it was really effective, I take it every time I have cough or colds. But my daughter is 12, I don't know if mullein is ok for younger kids, so it's better to ask a doctor first.
