What’s going on with my DS?

So my son who is 4 had gastro really severely. He couldn’t keep anything down for 3 days solid. Day 4 he started to improve slightly but still sick a couple of times. Day 5 he started passing bright red urine, this continued all day. Was seen at OOH and said the blood could be caused by a number of things. Said if it continues to take him to A&E. Today his urine is a much better colour but can see red things floating in it. He’s also had swollen red toes. I don’t know what to do? Or whether I need to get him seen asap. Anyone been through this before?

Based on the blood and vomiting I'd say kidney or urine infection. Does he have a temp? Was his urine checked? Dies it hurt to wee?

The toes I can't see an obvious link but I'm not medical.

But I would get him seen today.

No temp at all. My partner took him as I was at home with my youngest who also has gastro. Partner said when he took him in on day 4 he had ketones and protein in his urine but they said that’s normal with gastro. Then day 5 (with the blood) they just told him that there’s blood in his urine and they sent it off to the lab. His urine is much better now and no sign of any floating bits since this morning. We are in Australia so it’s afternoon for us now.

I keep thinking about the dehydration from the gastro affecting his kidneys. Reason why i don’t know wether to just get him seen again is my youngest is so poorly with this horrible gastro so don’t really want to pass it around. He seems much better in himself and is playing etc. just very alarming to see his urine looking like pure blood yesterday.

Update. He’s ok! They said the blood was from him being so dehydrated.

Sorry op only just seen this. Glad he's ok!

Sorry to hear this. Did they do blood tests to check for haemolytic uraemic syndrome? A kidney problem they can develop after a bad gastroenteritis?

Hi, thank you for your message. So his urine culture came back and showed a slight urine infection so he’s on antibiotics. He’s booked in with our GP tomorrow so will ask about this blood test. He’s doing ok though. Still complaining of some pain in his abdomen.
