Hi, my DS1 age 9 has just been diagnosed with scarlet fever yesterday. He is thankfully ok at the moment and on antibiotics.
DS1 has had lots of tonsillitis/Strep throat throughout his life to date and this is the second time he has developed scarlet fever.
We were looking for him to have his tonsils removed before we went into lock down in 2020 and were told he would likely grow out of it. DS1 is now only getting tonsillitis twice a year so we thought he may well be growing out of it.
The doctor we saw said there is a lot of scarlet fever cases around at the moment again.
The question I have which I can’t seem to find an answer to is and forgot to ask the Dr is…
Why does DS1 not develop scarlet fever every time he gets strep throat?
Is it a particular strain of Strep that causes the rash to appear? Whereas other times he’s had confirmed Strep A it’s never given him the rash.
anyone who may be able to shed some light on this I’d appreciate it.
thanks!
