Does this look like scabies?

DD always has extremely dry hands but it's now getting some spots/cuts and there is now also a rash that's developed in her elbow crease.

The thing that throws me is that she says it doesn't itch. But the hand does look like it has been scratched a bit so maybe she scratches at night?

Its hard to tell but yes it could be. Are there little track lines? Any around armpits that's another area they like. Will be more between the fingers in the webbing and in any creases.

Urgh, just what I (don't) need. Nothing in armpits that I can see so far. The skin is also so dry and damaged I can't specifically notice any track lines.

I might make a private appointment with a dermatologist to get it confirmed 100% as the treatment looks like such a pain I'd rather not do it if not necessary.

It's hard to tell from the pictures to be honest!
It could be eczema or an allergy or even a viral rash! I would be tempted to try some piriton and hydrocortisone cream to see if it goes down in a couple days.

I suffered terribly with eczema my entire life and tried every method going! Always worse in my hands and arms. Turns out it was a dog allergy and has completely disappeared since not having a pet!

I've just been to the pharmacy with dd who I thought might have it (apparently going round campus) and they checked her thoroughly and decided she didn't have it and gave her some steroid cream.

It doesn't totally look like what the pharmacist said she was looking for, which was the webbing between the fingers, but I don't think the photos good enough to see either way. Try a friendly pharmacist!

That's classic eczema (GP here)

Looks like eczema.

.... sorry sent too soon!
The rash around the wrist looks more like eczema then a babies. Scabbies is typically very itchy and bumps formed in little lines!

CatLadyLegal · 29/04/2024 20:45

Eczema. My little one has exactly the same just now.

Phew you're all very reassuring thank you. I will try the pharmacist tomorrow but they're not usually overly helpful.

DD has also NEVER had eczema so I guess that's worrying me a bit too- that we'll get misdiagnosed unless we get a proper scrape and check done with dermatologist.

I had a friend who was misdiagnosed as having eczema and it was actually scabies. She was in agony with the itching which DD isn't though.

@smilesonlyforyou is eczema possible even if she's not suffered before? Can it start at 6 years old and could it be triggered by over washing her hands? She does cover them in soap and rubs it in for ages, especially around the wrists so there is definitely some of that going on.

Look exactly like my eczema…which I’d never had until last year at the age of 48.

Literally flared up overnight pretty much all over my body and now I have it mostly on my hand, shoulder an knee.

It itches occasionally but not all the time by any stretch.

Pic for comparison…

It does look very similar!
