13yo daughter growth and development

Hi,
I have a 13 year old daughter - 14 in September.

She is a very sporty girl with a petite frame. Weighs about 5st8 and is 4ft11.

She has not shown any sign of puberty yet. No body hair in any areas, no breasts and no periods.

Do you think this is normal or should I contact a GP?

I was 12 when I started and I remember my pubic hair coming way before this.

All of her friends are so huge in all areas compared to her. I feel for her a bit!
Thanks

Puberty is delayed if zero signs before 16 so she's still within normal. That said if it were my daughter I'd see a paediatric endocrinologist to have a pelvic scan and bone age X-ray to check everything is ok - which I'm sure it is!

Might be work a conversation with the GP to run bloods and as above said the pelvic and bone scan to check x
my daughter is 12 also very sporty and thin. Hasn’t had a periord yet but has small signs of puberty.

I make that 2nd percentile for weight and 9th for height so small but in proportion.

I was similar and I don't think I had any signs at 13 but by 14 my periods had started and I started to grow breasts almost at the same time.

The charts show puberty as delayed if not started at all by 13 or if breasts have grown but no signs of periods by 15. I think I would be inclined to speak to your GP about this. I had anorexia in my late teens and my periods all but stopped I was told that they were likely to return once I reached a particular weight and % body fat. If they are on the small size naturally this could also have an impact.

Puberty is linked to body fat. When there is little body fat, puberty might happen a bit later.

loropianalover · 30/04/2024 23:36

I’d say that’s relatively normal, no? I was much taller (5’8) and a little chubby but no development, hair etc until I was 14 and no period until a few months after I turned 15.

I know they seem to get periods earlier these days but I’d still consider 13 quite young. No harm in talking to GP anyway, they should be most up to date with what’s ‘normal’!

I think the general advice is if they haven't started by 15 to see if the GP thinks there is an issue.

I didn't start until 14 and think there was a wide range in the year from 9 to 15. On the plus side there's evidence that the later you get it the later the menopause arrives, if that's a plus!

No signs of puberty at all ? is she a bit whiffy after sports/needs deodorant? any occasional spots or oilier hair? as if so at least that shows hormonal changes.

Remaker · 30/04/2024 23:50

My niece was very similar. Absolutely zero signs of puberty at 14. Parents were very reluctant to have any testing done but I think there would have been blood tests at that stage if they’d wanted them. The GP said to bring her back if no period by 16. By then she was having some signs of puberty and finally got period at nearly 17. Her growth spurt was all done in a year and she is now 5 foot 3.

I was 10 and I practically had a bush by then

My sister and mum were just shy of 16 when they started their periods. Both very small and petite and my sister never got a chest until late teens. I was the opposite I hit puberty at 10 and my periods followed shortly and I have a chest early on too. My daughters 10 and looks to be following my footsteps. Although she's a lot taller than I was she's 4ft 11 size 4.5 shoe, she has long legs but I have noticed she's started to get a chest, so she's now in bra's she's hit puberty and she's now got a nice wee set of hips on her but is still really slim. I'd say if more towards 15.5 / 16 and there's no improvement then I'd get her a check up with the GP xx
