Low iron... STILL!

My 5 year old boy had a blood test last summer. He was slightly low in iron so we've been giving him iron supplements. He's been diagnosed with ADHD recently and there is research showing a correlation between ADHD and low iron. He also suffers from anxiety, and I've read low iron can contribute to anxiety, so very keen to sort this deficieny out.

However, I requested a blood test for him last week to check his iron levels were normal by now, assuming they would be ... but he was even lower in iron than he was last year! Despite the supplements!

What can I do? He is a very good eater and eats loads of iron-rich foods. He has plenty of red meat, chicken, eggs, salmon, oily fish and brocoli. We've given him Feroglobin liquid since last August. The GP just said (again) feed him more iron-rich food (I am!!). What else can I do? Or who else can I go to for answers - willing to pay privately if necessary!

Many thanks indeed for any advice.

Try a small glass of fresh orange before the iron rich food and his medication. The vitamin c helps the body absorb the iron.

Started doing that now. Thanks so much.
