Why was DS only sick once?

I appreciate this may be impossible to answer.

DS was absolutely fine yesterday morning, sent him to preschool as normal. I got a phone call after lunch to say he'd been sick everywhere so I brought him home. When I picked him up he was pale and shivery, but after about half an hour at home he was bouncing on the couch and asking for a snack. He seems absolutely fine today.

Could a bug make someone poorly for only about 4 hours or so? I'm just wondering if the rest of us have something to look forward to 😬

Yes we had a bug recently where my son vomited once. I caught it and only vomited once. Must be a thing.

Thank you, that's interesting. I've not been feeling well since he came home but I'm not very good with sick so I'm not sure if it's just psychological 😲

My DS did this right before breaking up for Easter

Threw up all over his desk at school, and himself

Came home - absolutely fine, complaining he wanted a snack

Some dc get hit worse than others. When awful bugs have been going around their class my dc have thrown up once. This has maybe happened once each Neither have ever had an actual sick bug where they are throwing up over and over and they are 11 and 14. There also are sometimes short lived sick bugs like this going around. If he was pale and shivery it was likely he's caught something as opposed to another cause of sickness

@liveforsummer @WeeOrcadian thanks both. He's bouncing off the walls now I have to keep him off for 48 hours so I think he's feeling better 😅 Rest of the house seem okay so far, fingers crossed.

I think it must just affect people differently. In our case my 4yo DD was sick at least twice a day for a whole week, 1yo was off her food but only sick once and I felt sick but wasn't sick at all.

My DH had this due to an ear problem. The ear had been as if blocked for a couple of days. It bothered him to the extent of trying to clear it, it made him instantly dizzy and very sick, then more dizzy, but felt fine shortly afterwards.

Ate something that disagreed with him?

This is what I was worrying about, he had just had his lunch before he was sick so with the immediacy of it I was wondering if maybe he was intolerant/allergic to something?

My 12 year old has never vomited in his life. Even as a baby. I don't have a clue why.

Simd1 · 10/04/2024 13:22

DS2 aged 6 has done this twice in the past few months. Both times he vommed not long after arriving at school, I picked him up and he was then fine but had to stay off for 48h. Nobody else in the house was sick either time. No idea of the cause.

One of my dc vomits with a high temperature. Every time. But it will only be 1 vomit then shortly afterwards they’re fine.
