Leg Rash Help :(

Hi,

Just wondering whether anyone has any thoughts on this rash. I have included some pics of how it has progressed. Sent initial photos to GP where it doesn't look that bad, was phoned back the next day - advised that they thought it looked as if it was an eczema flare up but also could possibly be fungal & prescribed daktarin and told to use for up to 7 days and make contact if it's not improved, though I note from google it says that it can take up to 2 weeks for a noticeable difference?

7 days is up and it's not much better, though I've spent so long staring at it it's hard to tell - some days in some lights it looks better, others it looks worse. The cream seems to have stopped the itching at least, however am concerned as I know steroid creams aren't great for the skin.

GP said to keep using emollients which I have done but just wondering if anyone has any experience?

Have tried googling various rashes etc to see if I can find something that fits!

It almost looks like a shingles rash following a line down the leg

BlueWhale47 · 09/04/2024 20:43

Hmm I see what you mean - have just had a quick google. It's hard to describe but it's just sort of raised rather than being fluid filled blisters.

It's probably worth mentioning that she's completely well within herself, eating and drinking fine, playing etc. Not complaining of any pain, however at first it was itchy for her.

I am going refer back to the GP tomorrow in any case, but just looks awful & concerned about it getting worse/spreading further up the leg/different areas as it has got worse since the initial photos were taken

upon looking at the second photo I said aloud to myself “that’s shingles isn’t it”. Maybe worth getting her checked OP.

Looks like excema to me, I had similar as a child..but def needs checking by a professional.

Is it warm to the touch?

BlueWhale47 · 10/04/2024 09:24

Have just done an e-consult requesting a face to face apt as the previous one was done over telephone and looking at pics. They will contact me back by latest tomorrow.

Had a look into shingles but ruled that out as apparently you can only get that if you've had chickenpox, which she hadn't.

@Valhalla17 perhaps slightly warm but not noticeably more than her other leg.

OK so if its not super warm at least it's probably not infected. I was thinking something like fucidin might be a good option, but good you did the e-consult. Skin rashes are always a bit tricky to decipher!

Hey OP how did you get on with the GP? my dd has something similar and no clue what it is

LuckysDadsHat · 15/09/2024 10:26

That's the start of shingles. Get on to 111 and get an out of hours appointment for anti viral.

BlueWhale47 · 15/09/2024 13:24

Hi,

It wasn't shingles it was eczema she was prescribed steroid cream & different emollient and it resolved itself :)
