Sleep apnoea?

My 13 year old has been slinking in to bed beside me a bit lately. I've noticed pretty much every time, she jolts upright gasping for breath and almost choking on her own saliva. Only thing I can think of is sleep apnoea, does anyone have any first hand experience? She rarely remembers in the morning
