2.5 year old has all of his teeth but is in pain with his mouth?

He's waking up screaming and thrashing around in pain
He cries when he tries to eat and says his lip hurts but also points to his tongue
I've looked in his mouth and can't see anything abnormal
He has all 20 teeth
He won't even have his dummy cause he says that's hurting him
Not sure what I can do? I'm giving calpol every 4 hours but need to know what's causing it

I'm assuming this has happened suddenly and you've not had a chance to take him to the dentist yet?

Could he be confusing mouth pain with a sore throat?

Sounds like sore throat to me too
