3 year old - heel pain

Hey everyone, my 3 year old appeared to suddenly start walking on his tiptoes on Sunday night on his right foot. No obvious injury. When asked if it hurts he says yes and clearly points to the back of his foot at the heel.

We waited until Wednesday to call the doctors who sent us to A and E. He had three x rays taken, all fine, and a blood test, again fine. Got discharged with a suspected “soft tissue injury” and told to come back next Monday if it is no better. So far it’s not getting better…

Anyone else had a child do similar? There’s no swelling, no obvious injury, still running about and climbing etc he just won’t walk on his heel. He’s not much of a complainer and he doesn’t really mention it! But it must be hurting him.

Thanks in advance!

Hi I know this is an old post, but my 6 year old is doing the same. Did you get to the bottom of it?

I'm not the OP but just want to mention that if your DC becomes unwell or has a fever or if the heel feels hot/looks angry or swollen then you need to go to A&E to have bone infection ruled out.

If they seem fine in themselves then look into Severs which is a growth plate issue that is self-resolving. Most articles talk about it starting older than 6 but it is possible in younger children.
