Any ideas what this is?

These 2 photos show some raised bumps on my 14 year old daughter's chest. She says they aren't itchy. Can't work out what they are. Any ideas please?

Shingles?

Hellocatshome · 12/03/2024 22:12

Looks like shingles. DS and I have both had it without it being itchy or painful.

Jandob · 12/03/2024 22:15

Could also be allergy or ringworm. Not a worm fungal infection fixed with canisten

RatzTailz · 12/03/2024 22:15

DS's shingles were diagnosed by the pharmacist in Morrisons - so you could ask a pharmacist if it's tricky to get a GP appointment tomorrow?

battybobo1 · 12/03/2024 22:24

Thanks all.

It does look a bit like some of the shingles photos I've looked at online. It says that the rash should be on one side - of the 2 patches, 1 is in the front crease of her armpit but the other is the top of her cleavage. So 1 patch is in the middle rather than on one side.

If it is shingles, would the pharmacist be able to give her something for it?

Molluscum?

Station11 · 12/03/2024 22:25

Looks like shingles to me as well. Have they had chicken pox?

BrutusMcDogface · 12/03/2024 22:27

Yes, I’ve just googled shingles and molluscum and it looks more like shingles. My daughter had the molluscum thing on her thigh, but I’ve never experienced shingles. It’s good that she’s not in pain with it!

Hellocatshome · 12/03/2024 22:30

When DS has it they said they dont normally give anythjng for shingles to fit and well teenagers.

When the pharmacist diagnosed DS - who was a bit itchy and found it a bit painful- he said to take paracetamol and use a cold compress (bag of peas in a towel!) on it.

He said in some cases antivirals might be needed - eg a bad case, immunocompromised person - but not in a mild case like DS's.

battybobo1 · 12/03/2024 22:36

Thank you everyone. I'll take her to the pharmacist tomorrow and see what they say - I doubt I'll be able to get a GP appointment any time soon.

Hi

FYI, I'm no doctor or medical consultant

But when an FM asked what it was on their 1 yar old baby - I was the only one to get it spot on that it was shingles. (others thought the rash was chickenpox)

having looked at this, I've dived 55/45. 55% shingles and 45% ringworm

If it is to be ringworm, in my judgment, the spots are too prominent and therefore I've sided with shingles.

Ask a chemist OP

battybobo1 · 12/03/2024 22:39

Thank you. Yes, I thought the bumps were too raised to be ringworm.

To the person who asked, she has had chicken pox.

It looks like shingles to me too. When DS18 had it, he phoned the GP and they saw him almost immediately and he was given antivirals.

That reminds me, yes, if it is shingles the sooner the better

Possibly call 111 for guidance tonight?

Good luck

Moier · 12/03/2024 23:18

Shingles.. it might spread more and meet up.. l had it age 21.. started in two seperate patches like that..then met up so it was along from middle of my chest..under my boob and right round my back ..( non under other boob). I was given some antibiotic powder to put on and then just paracetamol.
It made me very depressed and tearful .
Good luck. Sending love to your daughter.

battybobo1 · 13/03/2024 16:28

Thanks @Moier .

We've been to the doctors today and they think it is shingles. They said if the blisters burst and scab over in the next few days, then it definitely is. They haven't given her any tablets, as she isn't feeling unwell.

Thanks to everyone for your help.
