Newborn reflux - breastfed/expressed milk

Hi all -

My newborn (5weeks) is struggling with reflux. I think she had silent reflux before this week (throwing head back, coughing, hiccups, raspy and snotty nose) but now she’s being sick after pretty much every feed.

We keep her upright after feeds and try burp her often but nothing seems to work however when I feed expressed milk via bottle she doesn’t seem to have this issue as bad? I don’t know if it’s because I have fast let down as I do use a slow release bottle?

Has anyone else had a similar experience or have any tips? Midwives have recommended intact but I’ve heard that can make reflux worse?

Hello! Did you get anywhere with this? I've also got a newborn with reflux and she's breastfed!

She's unsettled after each feed and it can take 30 minutes or more to settle her.

@PeapodRas we had the same with our now 5mo and we started her on omeprazole - it worked like a treat. We tried gaviscon but it's a pain to mix with ebm so went with omeprazole and she's now weaning off it.

Thank you - I'll speak to my health visitor and see what they recommend. Did you have to push to get this prescribed?

A little - we went straight to our GP but myself and husband are both paediatric healthcare professionals so I basically outlined my babies symptoms and said what we wanted for it

Ah ok, I was debating doing the same but without the medical know how 😂

Or I'll ask for a referral to a paediatric specialist!

Thank you
