Is this a splinter or something else?

I just noticed this on my 2 year old daughters hand this evening. She hasn't complained to me all day about her finger hurting or anything but when I tried to squeeze it (I assumed it was a splinter) she went crazy and now won't let me touch it. I tried to look at it and see if I could squeeze it again when she was asleep but it ended the same way her upset and it didn't look at all like there was a head or opening for anything to come out??

Any ideas if this is a splinter or not?

It looks quite red around the area. Do you think it's ok to leave over night?

Thanks in advance

Not sure how it compares to her other thumb, but it does looks a bit swollen and infected. What is the brown spot on the left? Can you not extract it with sterilised tweezers? Well, considering how red and swollen it is, I’d call the NHS (111?) to get professional advice. Good luck!

The brown spot with the white circle around it is the part that I'm wondering is a splinter xx

Have you got a kitten/cat? Could it be a bite? If so get an appointment asap for antibiotics.

It's probably red from the squeezing as much as anything. I'd smother it in sudocrem and maybe pop a plaster on overnight (especially if she's a thumb sucker).

No pets. I did wonder if it could be a bite but would a bite have a black dot in the middle? X

It was red before I squeezed 😕 xx

Could be infected then. I'd still do the sudocrem/plaster but draw a line round the redness first so you can see if it's spread. Take her to the pharmacist in the morning for advice.

DC had one that did look like a black dot, with infection that rapidly spread. I initially thought it was a splinter that I could not extract. Went to the Dr and got prescribed antibiotics.
