8 year old bad dandruff any recommendations?

Hi everyone

I wasn’t sure where to post this but am looking for anyone with advice if you have been through similar. My dd is 8 and has really bad dandruff.
Due to having terrible eczema as a toddler we have always used Child’s Farm products. In between flares we would still use Child’s farm bath/body but used schwarzkopf kids shampoo (the pink bottle). On looking for an alternative around 6 months ago we tried Aveeno Kids shampoo which initially seemed to help but not eradicate it, now it’s back as bad as ever. Her eczema has not been back now for around 2 years.

Im not sure if my approach is right! We are only washing her hair once a week. We use a microfibre towel then hairdryer so that she isn’t sitting with a wet scalp for too long. Wondering if using a hairdryer isn’t helping matters. When I wash her hair I massage her scalp and always rinse with fresh water from the shower.
Does anyone have any tips or shampoo recommendations? Many thanks

I'd definitely advise washing hair more often. I have issues with my scalp and it starts to feel uncomfortable with scalp build up by day 4 which is the longest I can get away without washing it.

Products wise, the only thing that works completely for me is the dandruff shampoo from Mediceuticals and the scalp rinse from the same brand. It costs a bomb but works absolute miracles. Once I've got my scalp under control by washing 3 times a week with it I can get away with using it once a week and then I do a wash with sulfate/paraben/silicone free shampoo and conditioner in between.

You'd need to check that the Mediceuticals is suitable for children. I use it very occasionally on my 6 year old if she has any dry skin developing on her scalp but I'd definely look into it before using it regularly.

This brand saved my scalp from a truly dreadful flare up of scalp psoriasis that no prescribed treatment from the GP or dermatologist had managed to control.

Since starting to use it my scalp has been pretty much clear for 4 years now.

E45 dry scalp shampoo is the best. I'd do one wash where you let the shampoo sit on there for a few good minutes while massaging the scalp. Rinse completely then do a second wash followed by any conditioner. E45 dry scalp shampoo really does solve the problem. Another good one is oilatum junior shampoo for dry, itchy scalps.
Ditch the hairdryer, if you can.

I would say wash more often too.

Thanks everyone. I will add in an extra wash then and possibly go up to by 3 next week? So like every 2nd day. I had googled before and that was were I got the cut down on hair washes from 🙈 Will try to ditch the hairdryer too then unless still damp at bedtime, we never used it before but was worried sitting with a damp scalp wasn’t helping. She has really thick hair like me and I tend not to use a drier either.
I had looked at the E45 one but couldn’t see a conditioner. Wasn’t sure if using the simple conditioner with that would be ok.
I have sent my DH some photos and he is going to go and try and get some tomorrow. Her scalp is often itchy and I don’t want her to become paranoid about this so really want to get it under control! Will check out the mediceuticals too thanks.

TGel worked for us. The smell is a bit weird but it was worth it. Good luck

The Body Shop ginger shampoo is excellent.

Hi OP. Yes, unfortunately, E45 don't do a conditioner. But that's ok. I just use whatever conditioner we have in the bath/shower. The E45 shampoo works wonders. The different conditioner doesn't have a negative effect. Sometimes it's hard to find E45 dry scalp shampoo in Boots/Superdrug, so I tend to order mine through Amazon.
