I don't have children, but recall having adenoids removed and a grommet inserted aged 4. Prior to that, I had ear infections monthly. It would come on within hours and I spent many nights visiting the out of hours medical centre in the middle of the night (this was abroad). The throbbing in my ear from the infections was awful. I had antibiotics so often, that I learnt to swallow tablets at a very young age, as couldn't stand the taste of the liquid one.
I don't believe my speech was affected beforehand, but hearing certainly improved.

Not exactly what you asked, but a hopeful bump for you OP.

My little one has his tonsils and adenoids removed when he was 4.
It was because of repeat nasty infections and they were also huge!

I could understand him a lot better with them gone, he was always very throaty and that eased and he could pronounce words a lot better. He also ate a lot better too.

My 4 year old had tonsils and adenoids removed and grommets put in yesterday. He is recovering well. We are giving him Calpol and ibrufen for the pain which he seems to be coping with. The hospital did prescribe oral morphine but he hadn't needed that yet. He is not eating much but when he is eating it's normal foods. We have already noticed his sleeping is better no snoring and his hearing has improved massively.
