Viral induced wheeze

My 22.5 month DS was discharged from hospital yesterday afternoon after experiencing viral induced wheeze.

Struggling to breathe in the early hours of Tuesday morning, took him to A&E who put him on a nebulizer & x-rayed his chest then moved him to paediatrics for 24 hours whilst having daily steriods and blue inhaler every 4 hours.

We're contining with the blue inhaler every 4 hours today and given the final dose of steriods and have a gp appointment tomorrow to have him checked over again.
No family history of asthma or exzcema, only mild hayfever from me (take otc medicine when needed)

Hoping this is just a one-off from a bad cold but can anyone share any similar experiences and how it worked out longer term for your child.

My little one had a similar episode at a similar age. He hasn't had any further breathing issues in the year plus since, despite having several colds. Though I don't know what's ahead, of course.
Edit for random greengrocer's apostrophe!

@LilyBartsHatShop thanks for sharing yiur experience. I'm hoping that will be our experience too. He's had no breathing issues prior to this and there's no 'risk' factors like a smoker in the house or familial asthma etc. so very much hoping it's just one-off.
