Baby boy swollen groin

Hello!

Just wondering if anyone else’s baby has had similar?

DS’s groin (kind of above genitals rather than his actual scrotum) was extremely swollen back in Dec, took him to A&E and they said they guessed hydrocele (this was partially decided as I made the mistake of saying one health visitor thought he had an undescended teste, no other health professional spotted this so I think it may have been a mistake). As the swelling comes and goes they’ve referred him for a scan end of this month. Only thing that makes me think it’s not hydrocele is that the swelling isn’t on his scrotum, it’s kind of all around it and above it. It comes and goes and he doesn’t seem distressed by it but it looks intense as when it’s really swollen, his scrotim seems stretched so it looks tiny and you can’t feel his testes when it’s like this.

any reassurances appreciated! The wait from mid-December has been agonising and I’m hoping it’s just hydrocele. Has anyone else had this? DS is 4 months old.

No chance he has an umbilical hernia? We thought our son just had a hydrocele but finally got it checked out when he was about 6yo, and it turned out to be a hernia around his groin so the fluid was leaking through, so he had his groin and umbilical hernias repaired at the same time.

@Quailpoop That was something I’d come across online and seems like it could be! I’ve got pics on my phone when he’s swollen to show docs if needed. Hope your son is better now!

Yes thank you, he wasnt allowed to jump or run for weeks after the operation as he needed mesh as it was a big gap in his groin apparently. But a year on he's fine and happy.
