Coughing burst at night 10 month old

So DS (10 month old) has had a cough now for about 3 weeks and I will be calling the doctor tomorrow for an appointment to be seen. As my DD has also has had a cough for about 3 to 4 weeks but she doesn’t seem to have this issue but she is older and has her head propped up with a pillow, I will also be trying to get an appointment for her also.

I just wanted to get some opinions/advice on this one. So when this all started DS had a temp for a day, threw up twice and then was acting normal, then developed a runny nose, sneezing, loose congestion etc… for the last 7 to 10 days he keeps waking up between 12 and 4am and has one coughing session that seems to last about 20 minutes. You can hear that he is swallowing mucus and is congested and after we hold him up right and he clears the mucus or coughs to the point he then brings up mucus that he has swallowed he settles and goes back to sleep.
tonight when he had his coughing session he was really upset and I believe that he was in a little pain 😭 but is now sound asleep now.

has anyone experienced this before? He isn’t really coughing much during the day, most of the time it’s brought on by him sticking his fingers to far into his mouth. But when he does cough during the day it’s just 2 or 3 coughs and he is fine, doesn’t seem to be in any pain at all. The runny nose seems to have cleared, I suspect he has some congestion higher up but it’s not affecting his breathing, he is eating and drinking fine, playing and acting normal.

its just at night he gets this coughing fit/session, we have been putting snuffle babe on his chest and back at night but I’m not convinced it’s helping really. Any advice or experience would be great. Thanks in advanced,

Yes we've had lingering coughs which come out at night, 8 weeks seems to be then they finally shift and then you have a little break until the next one 🤣
In our case it's been post nasal drip and I haven't actually found anything to help except waiting it out unfortunately. But would be interested to see if anyone has tips.

Well we got to see a nurse practitioner today and they have given us an inhale to use before bed to try and help. But ultimately we too are going to have to wait it out 😢 thankfully his lungs sounded clear and it seems to only be congestion that’s the likely cause at the moment.

also having to watch one of his eyes now as he has some goop and it looks a little red, nurse didn’t seem to worried but told us the usual to keep an eye on it etc…

hopefully the cough will go before 8 weeks but the nurse said 4-6 weeks has been the norm recently.
