Newborn rash

  • I will ring GP in morning to have her checked over -

Can anybody tell me what they think this rash might be on my LG’s neck/back? She is 4 weeks old and I noticed it this morning (first picture) and it seemed to calm down throughout the day and second picture is just now before bed.

I originally thought heat rash but she hasn’t been overdressed / sweaty so I’m not sure?

She also has some spots on her face as well, everywhere else seems clear.

Feeding fine and plenty of wet/dirty nappies.

Please help put my mind at rest! Thanks x

Does it fade under a glass?

TeaKitten · 29/01/2024 19:32

On a newborn I would always seek professional advice for random rashes.

DaisyHH · 29/01/2024 19:43

Yes It does

I would ring for advice tonight

Yes It does

Because of that, I wouldn’t be too concerned but with her age, I would take her to A&E.

TeaKitten · 29/01/2024 19:58

It’s probably nothing to worry about. But she’s too small to chance it, phone 111 tonight

Definitely take her to out of hours.

When did she last have milk?

DaisyHH · 29/01/2024 21:27

She’s fed as normal all day, each 3-4 hours, she is cluster feeding a little this evening but she has had her tongue tie cut today and they said to expect that. I showed the midwife her rash who said to put breast milk on it

Hi Op,

can I ask what the rash was? My 1 month h old has the same type of rash pictured. Iv been told it’s milia by the health visitor over text but they haven’t actually seen it and I couldn’t see the gp today and he’s otherwise fine but it gets quite angry red when it flares and I was on here looking for similar.

thanks

Hello,

Gp said something had irritated her skin and to use moisturiser and go back in a week if it doesn’t clear. I wanted to go to check her temp for infection etc and she was all okay on that front. I think it’s baby acne so I’ve been using coconut oil (kokoso) on it morning and night and it cleared in about 4 days. She still has a few spots but no where near as red and inflamed.

Let me know if your GP says anything different! X

Thank you, glad you got it sorted! . We have been trying epi max as given by the doctor but it’s not doing much at all. Next step is to cut out dairy and see how we go x
