Is this a cavity on my sons tooth?

Hi, my son is 8 and he’s just mentioned it feels like he has something in his tooth - I’ve had a look and I can’t tell if maybe some of his tooth has chipped off, if it’s a cavity or if it’s just normal? He has a checkup booked in March but wondering whether to try to get him seen sooner

Thanks

Looks like a cavity to me but I’m no expert. No harm in calling your dentist to see if they can see him sooner as you don’t want him to end up in lots of pain.

Looks like it! Push up his appointment if you can.

Thanks all, I’ll definitely ring the dentist tomorrow. Will he definitely need a filling? If he does do they need to use a drill? He’s autistic and I’m dreading it!

Yes and yes it will need to be drilled and filled.

To avoid further try and reduce frequency in sweet things (sugar drinks / fruit juice) & only have with meals. Make sure he’s brushing well along the sides to get the plaque but also in the flat occlusal chewing surfaces.
