6yo cough & fast breathing while asleep

Not sure if I’m overreacting. DS is 6yo, he’s had a bad cough for over a week which has been keeping him up at night (also coughing through the day). It seems to finally be getting a bit better but he’s still tired & a bit weary, not been eating as well as usual - I’d just put it down to not getting much sleep/feeling rough. Tonight he’s fast asleep, he hasn’t woken up coughing yet - but breathing faster than normal? He doesn’t seem to be struggling for breath, but it’s definitely faster. Is it cause for concern? Thanks for any help/advice you can offer x

My DS was hospitalised last May for this. Take a look at his chest-is he sucking in under his ribs as he breathes? Is he wheezing?

I rang out of hours and my DS was on the ward within half an hour of getting there. He wasn’t getting enough oxygen into his blood.

Do you have an oximeter? Is your ds asthmatic?

Thanks for your reply, I hope your son was ok. I don’t have an oximeter, & he isn’t asthmatic. It doesn’t look like he’s sucking in under his ribs. Think I’ll ring 111 though just for peace of mind.
