Baby development sitting/rolling

My 7 1/2 month old daughter learnt roll at four months, however she only rolls to the right and won’t roll to the left at all. She also can’t roll from tummy to back again. At 5 months she learnt to sit up, and can sit herself however if she leans to reach for a toy too far in one direction she just falls over, whether it’s forwards, backwards or to either side.

She can sit independently but I am consistently sat with her with her incase she falls. We attend a lot of playgroups and I can see others her age can roll back from tummy, and roll both directions. I can also see they can be popped down on the floor by the parent to sit, and their parents can go and take off their coats etc and get themselves sorted without having to worry if the baby will fall. I can’t step away from arms reach from her.

I’m trying to encourage tummy time for rolling and crawling but she absolutely hates it and cries after 1 minute, especially now she can sit as she loves to sit.

Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to encourage the skills?

My DD rolled once, at the age of 9 months, from front to back. She looked utterly startled, cried once and never ever did it again. (She’s now a very normal 23 year old). It’s also completely normal for babies to lose their balance when sitting, especially if they’re reaching for something, laughing or if they get distracted by something. I don’t think you need to worry.

Do you have a breastfeeding cushion? They’re really good to put around them when they’re sat on the floor to cushion any topples. Which are totally normal by the way, it’s mostly just the size of their head relative to their bodies making them unsteady. Also, my eldest hated tummy time, wouldn’t crawl, toppled sitting, would only roll back to front in one direction but she was walking at 9 months- was sat with arms reach of the coffee table one day and just pulled herself up and walked! Meanwhile my youngest rolled front to back at 7 weeks but didn’t walk until he was 1. There’s a huge range of what counts as normal.

My 10mth old has the last few days stopped sitting up when I put her into position she goes forward face down on the mat and seems upset. She can sit up on our knees and in her high chair just isn't doing it by herself, She is rolling and alert babbling using her walker ok etc . She has only been sitting a couple of wks but her regression has me v worried. Just wondering has anyone else experienced this?
