Child has the flu

My daughter was unwell since last week but quickly improved and was feeling OK. Then on Friday we had a flight and on Saturday her snotty nose returned with the cough. Last night she complained of ear ache in the right ear and I gave her calpol and ibuprofen. Then this morning she went totally groggy and complained of tummy ache and vomitted. She is also congested and in the morning got a fever of around 38 degrees. We took her to see a doctor and he said it's flu. He didn't test her but said it's standard symptoms. He said her left ear is a bit red which is weird as she complained of right one pain. He said this should resolve but if not start antibiotic tomorrow.

She looks miserable. I'm not sure waiting is worth it.

Any mom out there with a child with similar symptoms and did it resolve or needed ab?

He said the flu is everywhere this year ... so depressing. :( I can't wait to catch it as I didn't vaccinate this year.

I'm sorry your child is poorly. Did it come on suddenly? That's the main difference between flu and other illnesses. My whole household, me and three teens have the flu currently, only the DD13 is well, she had a flu vaccination at school last term. I was vaccinated too but still have it.

I read that it's common for younger children to complain of ear pain too but not adults. As far as I'm aware antibiotics don't work on the flu unless you end with a chest infection or maybe an ear infection as a result.

To give you an idea of the speed it comes on, I was at work Friday morning, went to the hairdressers afterwards and felt cold while I was there. When i got home I couldn't warm up or stop shivering, two wheat bags and double blankets later I managed to go to sleep, woke up with a temperature of 38.6, i haven't been out of bed since, I feel absolutely dreadful.

Sounds very similar to my
dd-
she had a random temp on 22.12 then a few days later a rotten cold. Quickly recovered by Xmas Eve.

She then woke up on Boxing Day out of sorts and we had 5
days of aches, cough, super night temps (40 at one point) and general unwell-ness. She only just kicked it and has
her appetite back. Saw Gp who said flu based on symptoms and that her ear was red too though she hadn’t complained of it.

i now feel off with a low temp and awful cough so reckon I have it now too- I think it’s everywhere this year and we both had our vaccines 😢hope she feels better soon. Rest and fluids and cuddles xx
