Croup?

DD is 2 and has a croup-like cough but only at night.

She only coughed on and off for a couple of hours last night but tonight seems so much worse. The weird thing is that in the day she is perfectly fine, not a hint of anything and not coughing. Is this normal for croup? Does it get worse at night?

She seems to breathe fine through her nose but then will occasionally do a big gasp through her mouth which gets me really scared that she is having issues with her breathing.

Iv e set up next to her bed for the night so I can keep an eye on her but any advice gratefully received! I've not has this with any of my DC so far.

Yes it's always worse at night
Is she making a noise when she breathes in?
Keep an eye on the point at yhe bottom of her chest/ top of her stomach. If it sucks in go straight to a and e.

When my DC had it night was worse, sounded like a dog barking.

My dc it was always worse at night, too. Bizarrely cold air helped. When it was particularly bad we got steroids to take if it got worse but it didn’t.

Apologies for bringing up an old thread but my DS seems to have croup too. What ended up helping your DD overnight? He’s exhausted but wakes up ‘barking’ all the time! He had a nap sitting up in the car today and no cough then!
