Where can I get help? Unwell 4 year old?

Hi

My 4 year old son has been unwell the last few weeks just general cough, runny nose but mostly he is really just not himself at all not playing constantly moany (which is unlike him) & completely off his food and no appetite so is losing weight. He hasn’t got a fever.

He also has another really random symptom which I have no idea if connected or not but my son keep complaining of pain in both hands and sometimes coldness and pain in his fingers (even though his hands are not cold to the touch).

I took him to the GP a few days ago about both issues & he said the cold was likely just viral & he couldn’t explain his hand problem but he’s still not getting any better?

What do I do now do I just keep carrying on with this illness and this hand pain ? I feel like I’m just ignoring it at the moment but I want him to get better but I don’t know where to turn to to get actual help?

Do I take him to A&E? It’s neither an actual accident nor emergency but if my doctor doesn’t know what to about the hand pain what am I meant to do? Will they actually give him something for it or am I just going to be sitting there for hours to be told the same as GP
that it’s just viral and waste everyone’s time.

Please help?

If he isn’t better arfter 3 days of having it, and if you are still worried about him i would take him to A&E.
it’s better safe than sorry and A&E aren’t going to turn you away.
i would be annoyed with the GP if I were you, wishing fast recovery.

Viruses can do weird things, I'd watch and wait a little longer and then go back to the GP and perhaps ask for a referral to a paediatrician. Don't go to A&E it's not an A&E issue and they'll just refer you back to the GP.

It could be a circulation issue like Raynard, have you tried hand warmers to heat his hands back up, gloves outside even if it doesn't feel that cold? How was he in previous winters? It may be something that's always bothered him but he only has the language skills to express it now

Take him back to the GP and ask for an urgent referral to a paediatrician. Don’t be fobbed off, this needs investigating urgently. (Nurse).
