Dental spacers / space maintainers

Child (aged 6) had a rotten tooth taken out and the dentist suggested putting in a spacer to maintain the gap while the adult teeth comes through.

Does anyone know if these are painful and what sort of price they are. I assume NHS dentists would do it, loathe to think how much it would be private.

thanks,

Only an orthodontist or a general dentist with an NHS orthodontic contract can offer a space maintainer under the NHS. It's something that a dentist can provide privately.
They are not usually painful and there are different types so ask the dentist who suggested it for a quote.

Hi,

may I know how your child is now? My daughter(also 6) had a premolar extracted, and the doctor mentioned space maintainer as well. Thanks!
