She probably has a urinary tract infection.

She'll need to see a doctor for antibiotics but in the meantime drinking more liquid will help.

RougeFraise · 09/12/2023 17:45

I don’t think you should wait with youngsters. I’d call 111 for an OOH.

Yes this is what I was wondering, thanks. I’ll call 111.

Yes you should be able to get her to see an out of hours gp. In the meantime get her to drink as much as possible. Can’t wait till Monday I’m afraid.

Milliemoos5 · 09/12/2023 17:48

I get UTIs a lot and honestly getting the antibiotics asap is the best thing to do to avoid days of misery x

Toesaresoweird · 09/12/2023 17:57

Out of hours if possible. You don't want to wait around with a little one and a suspected UTI.

Tandora · 09/12/2023 17:59

Thanks all,
Is the way to get through to out of hours through 111?
been on hold for 10 mins.

You just have to keep holding, I'm afraid. It took about an hour last time I called them and then I had to wait for a call back from the local OOH service with an appointment time.

Milliemoos5 · 09/12/2023 18:01

Yes just keep holding I’m afraid !

Antibiotics. But while you're waiting orange juice seems to take the sting after a few hours even if it doesn't improve the urgency. If she's going very frequently she might get sore from wiping a lot. I offer baby wipes or cheeky wipes/wash cloths dipped in warm water and wrung out.

DingDongBella · 09/12/2023 18:11

It might be quicker online.

Thank you. She was saying it hurts when she wipes as well so this is a good tip x

Poor love. UTI's are awful. Hope she's better soon

KrisKringlee · 09/12/2023 19:03

If she is clear of a uti then you need to treat her for worms

Oh gosh really? I did not know this. What are the symptoms of worms? And how is it treated?

Personally I'd probably wait until the morning unless there is an out of hours GP that's easily accessible.

My children have complained of UTI type pain 3 times. Once it was in the morning so we took her to the GP later in the day and she had antibiotics.

The second time (same child) it was at bedtime so we said to see how it was overnight and we'd take her to the Dr first thing if it still hurt. No mention of it again. Clearly it either sorted itself out overnight or was something else.

The third time (other child) it was about midnight and I said the same.I was convinced it was a UTI as she was clearly in discomfort, but it eased after Calpol and again was fine the next day and never mentioned again.

I wouldn't wait until Monday, but it's not an out of hours or 111 emergency IMO.

stresshead38 · 09/12/2023 20:25

@Somuchgoo where would you go tomorrow though if not 111/out of hours?
That would be my only option here for illness... we have a minor injuries centre but they won't take illness.

We've got a walk in clinic open evenings and weekends staffed by GPs.

Without that (or similar) I'd do 111 tomorrow but I'd give it overnight to see if it resolves first.

SM4713 · 09/12/2023 21:19

Is there a minor injuries unit or walk in centre near you OP? That would be quicker than trying to get through the 111. I'd go there tomorrow.

I'm surprised someone with a 4yr old has no clue about this nor googled! 😕
Obviously rule out the UTI firstly though, but they are easily treated with a tablet from the pharmacy- IF its threadworms.
