Bald patch on 5 YO

Hi all

2 months ago we have noticed a bald patch size of a golf ball on her head. We took her to the gp and was adviced to wait 5-6 weeks. Which we did. Nothing happened since then. The bald patch is still smooth and no grow. GP says this is normal and nothing to do about it just to hope that it grows back one day.

I was expecting a blood test at least? There's a new patch smaller now and Gp doesn't seem concerned at all.

Has anyone experienced this?

Have you tried a different gp for a second opinion? I've no experience and haven't been in this situation but it doesn't make sense and I'd want to get to the bottom of it, as I'm sure you do.

My son got a little bald patch which was put down to a stressful experience - I'm still not sure what - but if she's getting another one I'd get a second opinion on whether she's got alopecia

Are you find lots of hair around the house? With my daughter it was the symptom of iron deficiency.

Hi, in the end our gp told us to wait it out and keep an eye for new bald spots (which luckily we avoided) it took a few months but the hair slowly started to grow back again.

Wishing you and your little one the same ❤️

Our gp did say if the hair wouldn't grow back in a few months we would've had to be referred to a skin specialist

Thank you so much for replying- it's so frustrating that all we can do is just wait and watch, I'm a very impatient person at the best of times. I'm so happy for you that your daughters resolved, would you say it took 2/3 months? And was there just the 2 spots. We are a week in from when I found it and the spot is there but it's not completely smooth there are longer hairs which haven't fallen so I'm really just hoping it will regrow as quickly as it fell x

@foreverhopeful1uk I know! The wait is awful ! I'm super impatient too. From memory I think I found the bald spot in October- November and it started regrowing roughly 3-4 months later 🫣 but her bald spot was smooth .. hopefully it will be sooner for your little boy if there's still a few hairs around the bald spot.

I know this thread is really old now but just wondering what the outcome of this was for you all that have experienced it?
I have this at the moment, noticed the exact same thing on my 6 year olds head yesterday…a small smooth bald patch about the size of a 5p…I’m trying to not worry and not thinking she’s gonna end up loosing all her beautiful hair 😩 thanks!

Does anyone have any updates please?

astl · 22/02/2025 08:50

Any updates anyone? My 10 yo has a single bald spot about size of 5p.

I have just removed one of those holiday braids (the ones with the coloured thread wrapped round it and beads at the bottom) but the bald spot isn't in the same spot as the braid was - it is next to it

Any updates @LilAbes@foreverhopeful1uk
