He brushes and uses mouthwash twice a day. Electric toothbrush. But his breath is horrid.

Could there be something else going on or do I need to just ramp up the dental hygiene another notch (somehow)

Mouth breathing at night? Not drinking enough water? Has he been to the dentist lately to check there's nothing untoward going on?

Does he brush his tongue? Tonsil stones? Sneaky bit of tooth decay?

Seeline · 01/12/2023 09:49

If it's recent, could be throat infection or tonsillitis.

FusionChefGeoff · 01/12/2023 09:52

Thanks all - we've got a dentist appointment in Jan so ill definitely bring it up then. It's been going on for a while so I don't think it's tonsil related as presumably he'd be complaining of a sore throat?

Forgot to add he still sucks his thumb (when reading at home and at night) so i don't know how but maybe that's making it worse?

Aside from him eating Smints etc any ideas to control it?

I’d try to bring the dental appointment forward.

He doesn't have a tummy issue does he like heartburn? I believe that can also cause bad breath xxx

sashh · 01/12/2023 10:28

When my carer developed bad breath it was because his wisdom teeth were rotted.

And this is someone who at 40+ has a single filling and a dental nurse as a mother so very good dental hygiene.

@MrsSkylerWhite unfortunately this is a rescheduled one that they've cancelled and was the earliest we could get!
