Child fever for 8th day

Please has anyone else experienced this. My 6 year old son started with a slight fever 7 days ago and total loss of appetite and generally moping about. Took him to docs after day 4 and they said no obvious sign of infection and likely just viral but to bring him back after the weekend if still no improvement. He seemed slightly better but then the temp would come back again so still running on calpol/nurofen.
went back to docs yesterday and he said his tonsils look quite big and is going to prescribe antibiotics for tonsillitis (even tho I don’t think it is that) but should he be starting to feel better by now, he’s had 2 days of the medicine but tonight burning up again and I’m going out of my mind thinking is this normal to have a temp for this many days!?

No it's not normal, my son had something similar a week ago and was given amoxicillin which did help whatever it was that was causing his temperature.
In your case I would phone 111 and take their advice.

He’s got similar medicine but has only had it since yesterday afternoon. I’m thinking 111 will prob just say I haven’t given the antibiotics enough time to try and work? So hard to know what to do

It did take 24hrs ( 3 doses ) of the antibiotics before his temperature got under control.
You can still phone them to check if you can give calpol and or alternate with ibuprofen at the same time.
