swollen gland- one side

My 5 year old has what I think is a swollen gland on one side of his neck. It's very visible, about the size of one of those little bouncy balls you get in party bags (that's the only comparison I could think of). I noticed it about 3 days ago but no idea if it's been there longer.
He's had a recent virus and has been a bit tired but otherwise ok.

I'm going to phone docs tomorrow but does this sound like anything to worry about?

Yes please do get an appointment to get it seen.

My son had a sore throat and swollen glands which developed into quinsy, the infection spread to the neck muscle and he had to go to hospital and go onto a antibiotic drip every four hours for three days. Mainly because he tried to ignore it, thinking it would go away. (He was a teen).

So best to be safe.

thank you- he had a slight sore throat last week but it's not sore now.
