Hi everyone

My 6 year old daughter has been complaining of a sore knee. This morning it looked like this, she was getting upset with the pain on the walk home from school. She said she hasn't fallen over. I have contacted the gp this morning but still no call back. Any idea what it is?

It could be a boil. I got them occasionally on my legs as a child.
Try putting a warm compress on or soak in a warm bath which might relieve the pain. If it is a boil it should eventually come to a head, burst and then heal.

After soaking/warm compress you could bathe with something like diluted TCP or put antiseptic cream on and then a plaster/dressing.

The other thing I would do is use a biro to draw round the outer edge of the red area so that you can see if it is spreading. If it is, it could be a sign of spreading infection which will need fairly urgent treatment.

Another possibility is that it could be an infected insect bite which again may need antibiotic treatment.
