Opinions please, is this strep?!

Hi all,
My 3 year old boy hasn't been well today.
Initial symptom was a high temp and generally weak and tired.
Upon locking in his throat at 3pm I was quite shocked at the sight, I've not seen anything like it before in either of my children. I instantly thought strep and called 111 straight away.

I haven't long got back from an appointment at my local hospital with an out of hours GP.
She looked at his throat and really wasn't sure, she was googling pictures of strep herself but when I showed her the picture I had seen on Google she agreed it looked very similar.
She did end up prescribing antibiotics but I will have to travel 20 miles in the morning to collect them as it's Sunday.

She just didn't really fill me with much confidence, advised me to hold off on the antibiotics but I really don't want to mess around if it is strep!

Opinions please, thanks!

Does he have spots anywhere else? Could be the start of hand foot and mouth, I remember a little girl in my nursery having it really bad in her mouth? Not 100% sure though.

He doesn't have any spots anywhere else.
He's also had hand, foot and mouth before. Like you're daughter his mouth was covered in blisters. This looks different, more like bright red pin prick dots.
Thank you x

Looks very like strep to me. I have been told its the individual spots that make it bacterial whereas viral throat infections are more generalised redness. I would start the antibiotics asap

Veteran strep mama here- that’s strep. The key ref
flags being the petichaie (red pin prick spots on roof of mouth) and sudden onset of high fever.
did she swab him for strep? As not clear If she wants you to hold off giving antibiotics until Swab comes back positive which would be reasonable, or whether you’re just to “wait and see” on your own which isn’t that helpful! either way I’d be picking them up tomorrow. Hope he feels better soon x

Thank you! I will most definitely be collecting the antibiotics this morning.
She didn’t test him no, I’m not sure they have the resources at our tiny town hospital. Maybe I will ask if it’s possible for him to be tested at the chemist/hospital when I collect his antibiotics today.
Thank you for confirming.
