So I need some advice. My 3.5year old needs her tonsils and adenoids removed. The NHS wait where I am is 3 years! Needless to say we're going private as she has active glue ear in one ear and the other is going the same way, she also has sleep apnea at times. The sleep study they want to do prior to surgery is a 5 month wait in itself!
She is sick constantly and whenever gets sick she can barely breathe it's absolutely awful to watch. I'm also due our second child in 2 approx weeks and my DD sleep issues because of the tonsils etc has been utterly awful.
So she gave up her dummy when she turned 3 and has honestly not missed it, barely asked for it and was really excited about the dummy fairy taking it etc. However it was after this point that we noticed the sleep apnea and her sleep has been atrocious. Split nights, stopped napping, unable to get back to sleep, sleep apnea causing her major panic.
It's been so incredibly difficult for us all. I'm also on my own 4/5 nights a week as my husband works nights and the thought of also having a newborn while this is going on is terrifying me.
Anyway, the whole point of this is to ask for opinions on giving the dummy back. Believe me when I say this is not something I want to do as she has done amazingly well without it in every other way. But we all need sleep. I've read the dummy can help with sleep apnea because it keeps the airway open.
We have our private consultation next week but it could still be a few months wait for the op and I don't want her to continue to suffer if I could potentially help her temporarily with the dummy.
Has anyone had any experience with this? I'm a very pregnant, very worried mum who is utterly exhausted.
