Worried mum

Does anybody’s child suffer terribly with leg pains?
My 10 year old suffers quite often than not with pains in his legs sometimes behind his knees either one leg or both it can make him limp and be really sore for him.
I took him to the GP in March and he had bloods done etc. just slightly low VIT D, nothing to warrant meds.

Today he’s come home with a terrible pain in his thigh says he’s had most of the day, he has had PE too.
I’ve given calpol and he’s resting but he said it can also be sore to the touch (his little brother stood on it trying to jump on him and it hurt) he’s also limping with this.
Of course I can call the GP again tomorrow but has anybody had experience with this? Worried mummy who suffers severely with anxiety x

Could it be growing pains?

NotStartedChristmasShoppingYet · 14/11/2023 18:55

Low vitamin D, even slightly low, can cause bone pain. Mine was agony and my levels weren’t even that low.
Find out what his actual level was compared to the labs reference range

My DC had the same and I was told growing pains. I would up his Vit D intake and give him Magnesium. Epsom salt baths are good too

Foreverboymumma · 14/11/2023 20:04

Thankyou so much for your replies.
can anybody recommend a vit d supplement for him and also magnesium? I shall order him some this evening and give that a go. The doctors have ordered another blood test I called this evening so I will definitely get his levels checked again.
we have been told growing pains I’ve just never had experience with this and don’t recall having it myself so was getting slightly worried. He currently has a hot water bottle on his thigh x

I use MAG365 (you will need to put it in a drink). I would also recommend the Magnesium spray. You can spray it on his legs.

For Vit D we use the Better You Vit D plus K (doctor said no point taking D without K) spray which goes into the mouth. My dc never gets the pains now.

I would wait and see what the doctors say about what you should give your son. Paracetamol and nurofen and plenty off rest..

SkaneTos · 14/11/2023 23:02

I understand that you are really worried.
It's good that you are in contact with doctors.

I had terrible growing pains in my legs when I was around 9 years old. I still remember it, it was awful.

I hope you will find out why your son is in pain.

Foreverboymumma · 15/11/2023 07:51

Thankyou for your replies I am waiting for 8am to have a call with the doctor and hopefully have him seen as well as a blood test.
he explained the pain yesterday as all his muscles was bunched up and couldn’t expand.
he doesn’t know the difference between muscles/bones etc so I’m going to have him seen and go from there.
they do want to re-check his vitamin D levels x

Hope all the GP checks go ok & you get some answers to help reassure you & to manage the pains.

Both my boys suffered intermittently with leg pains and aches until 12ish. Epsom salt baths and massage with arnica oil offered some comfort as well as calpol.

I also made sure they were drinking enough water.

It was really was rotten at times - preventing them from getting off to sleep and waking them in the night when really bad.

Foreverboymumma · 17/11/2023 10:02

I just wanted to update.
the doctor wasn’t worried she checked all joints etc and told me about the worry signs and that my son carries none.
we are however repeating his blood test so she told me to stay off the vitamin D for him until we see if his levels have gone down again if they have they’ll prescribe vitamin D if they haven’t I can purchase it over the counter. She did reassure me that this is quite common in children x
