Leaky ears after every cold? Not infection

Has anyone ever experienced this? My nearly 2yo has leaky ears after every cold.

it normally starts off with him being in some pain or discomfort for a couple of hours. No temp, just grouchy. Then, a few hours later, one of his ears will start discharging mocous. It’s clearIsh and doesn’t smell. After the discharge starts, he’s absolutely fine. The discharge normally goes away on its own after a few days. Most times, we repeat the process with the other ear.

If we go to the GP, they can’t see the ear because of the discharge and automatically give us drops. We’ve been to a private ENT a few times and she said that it’s of no concern and that this is normal until the Eustachian tubes finish maturing. She said no concern or need for medication unless he has a temp or is in absolute pain for more than a little bit.

Has anyone else had this? Obviously during winter this happens about once a month. It goes away by itself. Is it that normal?

My son is had this repeatedly in cold season. We also saw a private ENT who said the liquid was the result of a ruptured eardrum (from the pressure of the infection building up). There is a risk of hearing loss with repeated ruptured eardrums. He gave us a prescription for an oral medication that we had to use I think for 3 days, then wait 10 days, then do it again and said if it didn't work he would recommend grommets - but so far it has worked! (it has been a year)
