Complex febrile seizures

My DS (20months) had a complex febrile seizure for the first time earlier this week. He took around 10-15 mins to stop fitting and needed 2 doses of medication to bring him round.

This has left me feeling really quite anxious about it happening again and despite looking on the internet I’ve been unable to find much information in the way of support for parents afterwards. I’m particularly anxious about nighttime when I can’t keep an eye on him.

Does anyone have any advice or experience with this? Anything that helped you to worry slightly less?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, did midazolam resolve the issue?

MrsB902 · 19/11/2023 06:14

It did, I think he had 2 doses in hospital and we were discharged with some too in case we need it.

Please read the website rememberingalina , If midazolam was IV, then I think your little one has a chronic virus (it can get worse, it can disappear), possibly Ev71 or D68. Doctors don't know much about chronic virus, some don't even think they exists. If it gets worse, then consider an autoimmune treatment like Anakinra

and be very mindful if your little one has had HFMD, or you have auto-immune disease in the family (T1 Diabetes, Hashimutos, depression...) or during pregnancy
