Hi, please could someone tell me how I know if this is chicken pox or hand, foot and mouth? She is so unsettled and has been up half the night. Thanks

It doesn’t look like CP to me.

Parakeetamol · 03/11/2023 07:17

Have you done the glass test?

sunshineandtea · 03/11/2023 07:22

CP starts as isolated watery blisters that quickly spread

HFM is spots on hands feet mouth and nappy area typically

This looks like neither really.
Maybe a 'viral rash' or something else

Treat the child not the illness is how we go, fever? Calpol +/- ibuprofen.
Tired? Sleep
Encourage fluids
Seek medical help if not passing urine for 6 hours plus, unusually lethargic/ floppy, 'not right' high pitched moaning or crying, breathing difficulties etc

Hth

Thanks all. Yes I've done the glass test and it disappears so that's good.

Here are a few more photos. She has it in areas all over her body and is out of sorts and seems a bit uncomfortable but no rash. I'm wondering if it is an extreme case of HFM as she now has blisters on her fingers

Looks like HFM, my girls have had it several times and looked exactly like this.

With more photos. Thanks all, I think it's HFM

I suspect HFM. Our GP told us the main way to distinguish is that CP will cross the hairline but HFM won't.

Looks like a nasty enough case, hope she gets over it quickly.

(Also be careful with your hygiene, my kids have had it maybe 4 times between them, all very different, but one time I caught it and it was absolutely awful, I was in bits for days.)

Thank you very much! Is there anything I can put on her spots/blisters do you know? She has quite a few on her face too.

I'd say HF&M, my dd had it last year. No advice sadly but she got over the worst of it in a few days.

Was searching as my daughter was sent home from nursery with the same and I was unsure if it was HFM as blisters on her face. But it looks like your pics. Hope your LO is ok now.
