Braces tomorrow morning for 11yo

We've just been offered a cancellation for the orthodontist to fit braces tomorrow for dd11. We are free all day (except for friends coming for lunch) so I figured to go ahead.

I'm slightly trepidatious about it,although dd is excited (!!). What to expect? How long does it take to have them fitted? Her two siblings will also be there, I am thinking they will need a downloaded film or something to keep them quiet.

I'm planning on buying soup and other soft food too. What else do I need to think of?

I'm assuming she is going to be in pain and grumpy. Should she have a preventative paracetamol going in?

Dental wax, hopefully they will give you some but if not you can buy it in Boots.

When DS had his fitted it took about 30 mins. He was absolutely fine during and after but then his teeth really ached for the next few days and hurt when he tried to bite anything, even relatively soft things like cooked peas. So he mainly ate soup, porridge, yogurt, for the first few days, along with paracetamol.

He did get quite upset about it worrying that it was always going to hurt, but after a week it was all fine and no more pain, and he could eat normally (although he still doesn't eat hard things like nuts, apples, etc).

Doesnt take long at all, we did the pre paracetamol and had a last pre braces meal of his choice. Think chewy non brace friendly food but not sure if you can factor that in to a breakfast!

My DS lived off smoothies and weetabix for a couple of days till the pain went. He didn’t rate the dental wax but have heard others say it helped.
