Hello all,

Does anyone know how to go about registering my newborn at my GP before registering their birth? We are registering him in a couple of weeks but haven't 100% decided on the name yet. Can I change his name at the GP after if needed?!

I just called my GP and I think she's basically added to mine. My DD is now 18mo and I changed her surname recently with GP and they've just updated it on the system so I can't see there being an issue if you change his name x

Just register with the red book, name change when you go in for the 6 week check. Should be straightforward

Ok great thank you!

You can register them as Baby Surname (as if their first name is just the word Baby). That's what the hospital did with dd.

My daughter was registered at the hospital as baby my name and then at the GP surgery as name partner's name. The first time we went to the hospital after her birth they couldn't find her under her name but I had my red book with me which had her NHS number. Both names were linked to her number and the hospital updated her records.
I'm pretty certain that she was registered at the GP before properly as we did that at 6 weeks exactly and she had already been prescribed meds for reflux
