Blood in poo

SportyMumOf2 · 29/10/2023 20:36

My DD 12 (13 tomorrow) woke up this morning with cramps and feelings sick. She has spend much of the day on the sofa. Just before having a bath and she has had a sudden urge to poo and and vomit together. She’s had two poos now with blood. Her vomit was just dinner bits and she still feels like she needs to poo and be sick again. I thought this morning it was a bug but she had never had blood before. I’m waiting for a call back from 111. I’m in two minds should I just take her to A&E or wait for 111. Why is she bleeding?

How much blood? Was it more blood than poo?

SundayAnon · 29/10/2023 20:58

Red blood or dark blood?

How much, a smear, a drip, or a gush?

Are you certain it's blood, beetroot, red pepper, and ribena can all look fairly awful in poo (especially if digestion is hampered by a stomach bug).

SportyMumOf2 · 29/10/2023 21:02

It’s all red blood the entire bowl is covered. She’s got really bad cramps she’s bend over on the loo

What colour blood, what colour poo, was the blood liquid and in the water in the loo, or was it more like it was part of the poo?

ImInACage · 29/10/2023 21:04

Personally I'd take her to A&E. hopefully it's just a bug, but with the amount of blood it should probably be investigated.

Joystir59 · 29/10/2023 21:05

I hope you get a call back asap, but I'd personally get her to a&e

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 29/10/2023 21:10

Take a photo of the loo, if it's not been flushed, so you can show a Dr.

Bright red is the least worrying, as the brighter red it is the lower down the gut the bleed is. It may well be piles or a tear or fissure in the skin round her bottom from being poorly. Dark red, any clots, black, or anything that looks like coffee grounds, is much more concerning.

However, she shouldn't be bleeding at all, obviously. How far are you from A&E? I think (as someone with IBD, who has spent a lot of time pooing blood of varying amounts) I'd be inclined to take her to A&E. If it was just a bit of a drip and when she wiped I'd be thinking piles and waiting for 111 or GP tomorrow. But if it's enough to look alarming in the loo someone needs to physically look at her which 111 can't do over the phone.

It’s blood mixed with liquid and the boo is dark brown. I didn’t think to take a picture but I will do. We are going to pack a bag now and take her to A&E. we are about 15 minutes away. She’s never bleed with a poo before. I’ve just stuck her in the bath to clean her she got sick down herself

Is she getting her period op? I used to have horrific pain each month.

Best to get her checked out.

SportyMumOf2 · 29/10/2023 22:10

We are just waiting to be seen In A&E now. It was a horrible journey. Shes not had her period her I did chech with her it’s definitely bleeding from her bum and not her period @maw29. Its super busy here but I hope she stops going soon.

Make sure they send a poo sample to the lab for microbiology. Some of the bacterial tummy bugs that present with bloody diarrhoea can have specific stuff to watch out for down the line.

SausageMonkey2 · 29/10/2023 22:21

Is she constipated OP? Not necessarily hard poos but irregular or particularly large poos. Is she going every day?

SportyMumOf2 · 29/10/2023 22:33

She goes most days if not every second day. She’s saying she last had a normal poo Friday night. We have just been seen by triage nurse she’s going to get her a cubical and some pain relief and something to stop her vomiting. They are going to do a CT scan and give her some other medication

She’s had her CT scan now and loads of blood tests. We are just waiting for the surgical team to come and see her. She’s thankfully slept from about 1am

Exactly this. My
daughter had what turned out to be campylobacter last year and it presented just like this. Well done for getting her in and seen so soon xx

Covidwoes · 30/10/2023 17:35

Hi @SportyMumOf2, I recently had campylobacter (badly!) and bloody diarrhoea was a symptom. Hope your DD feels better soon.

SportyMumOf2 · 30/10/2023 21:06

Thank you we are just home. They don’t really know what’s causing or caused it they have booked us for a colonoscopy on Wednesday of this week. They have taken a stool sample and urine sample. They have just told us to watch her and if it happens in the meantime come back to A&E. she’s very bloated now and has pain every time she moves. She’s saying her leggings are to tight around her belly on the way home. I guess it’s just a few days of watching her

It sounds like they're being thorough, which is really good. Hope this is figured out soon.

Embelline · 30/10/2023 22:38

Hope you get results soon and she is on the mend quickly it’s such a worry when they’re poorly

mulberrybag5 · 01/11/2023 01:46

Hope she’s ok OP. Thinking of you x

SportyMumOf2 · 01/11/2023 09:00

Thank you she’s got her colonoscopy today.

How is she?

SportyMumOf2 · 15/11/2023 16:06

She’s been really struggling over the last few days again with cramps and sudden rush to go with sadly a few accidents. She’s also got burning pain in her bum and feeling she’s not finished going. They suspect she has Crohn’s disease the camera showed a lot of inflammation
