Headaches 7 year old

over the last couple of weeks my 7 year had complained about every 2-3 days of a brief sore head- lasts literally a few seconds. it’s happened in the car but then tonight at end of dinner so I wonder if tiredness could be part of it. She doesn’t cry and it passes almost
as soon as it’s started so it can’t be terribly
sore, but the fact it’s continuing to happen is concerning me. Any idea what it is? She points to the back of her head when I ask where it hurts. I’ve looked up different types
of headaches from cluster to migraine but none seem to last Only seconds 🤷‍♀️She’s fine otherwise, and had her annual eye exam recently which all went fine so no problems there. I’m such a worrier ☹️Thank you ☀️

Hi OP, same as my DD. She has had headaches since she was 3 and they have usually always been fleeting and are associated with her being over tired, not drinking enough, too hot etc. She has been seen by a paediatrician and I was told that DD just gets simple headaches. I would speak with your GP - make a note of the time of day of the headache, potential trigger and how long it lasted (as well as any other symptoms such as nausea). This is what the GP will ask you to make a record of anyway, so go in armed with a headache diary so you can discuss it with them.

Make sure she is drinking plenty of fluids. She's at the age where we trust children to continue drinking enough but they get too focused on the TV, games etc to actually drink. It can be the main reason of headaches, the second being lack of sleep. Keep checking the amount.

I had bad headaches as a child and was always being sent to have my eyes tested. When I was an adult I realised I was allergic to eggs. I cannot eat them and if I do I get a bad headache. Maybe ask to have your child tested for allergies?

It does seem
to happen when she’s watching a
screen…..and tired….I always jump to worst case scenario, and been worrying about a
tumour as it’s not stopped and seems more frequent ☹️

My son has just been diagnosed with visual stress which apparently can cause headaches. Wasn't anything we had ever heard of so just in case it rings a bell with you.

My 7 year old has been diagnosed with ice pik headaches. She gets them a good few times a day and they only last a few minutes and she is fine after. I would go to the gp and ask them about it and maybe have a look online about them..

Had similar with my 7 year old, had MRI scan etc all fine, spent $70 on medication prescribed by neurologist.

After 1 day of medication DS decided that

  1. the medicine tasted really nasty and
  2. he didn't have headaches any more

🤷‍♀️
