ive taken my DD to OOO, and will go back again as I’m still concerned, however just wondering with a diarrhoea bug has anyone’s young child ran a temp of 39 for almost 3 days alongside diarrhoea and stomach cramping pains for this long.
temp comes down with medication, but as soon as it wears off back again 39 been has high as 40.
a&e sent us home with viral & viral throa infection.

Don’t worry about the number , my kids spike ridiculous temps like 41 when they are ill but doctors explain that it doesn’t mean they are any sicker than a child with a temp of 38. A high temp is a high temp no matter the figure it’s just how each body reacts to infection to fight it. A&E doctor said can be a sign that the child has a good immune system if they spike very high temps as body is fighting it.
3 days sounds pretty normal for a virus you just need to concentrate on ensuring they have enough fluid so they don’t get dehydrated and see how they get on tomorrow . X

Sounds pretty normal for a bug, sadly.

The Out of hours people really can't do anything. Calpol, stagger nurofen as well if you think she needs it. Fluids, watered down juice. Spoon it in with teaspoons or syringes if they throw it back up. Get some pedialyte in the morning but really that's just salt and sugar.

Bring her/him into your bed for snuggles and hair stroking, it's always worse at night.

Apple purée, white rice, banana and toast. Lucozade sport is good if you can’t get them to have dioyalite ( sorry spelling!).
It can take a few days with this kind of bug unlike bugs where they vomit which seem to resolve quicker. Also a little probiotic yogurt might help settle the stomach.

Thanks all,
such a worry when they get ill, always fearing the worst, and thinking something else is wrong.
she’s on the mend slowly but surely.
