Rushed MRI for leg swelling

My 7yo has one leg smaller (circumfrence) and shorter than the other. We have regular check ups to monitor the difference.

This year was earlier than normal as he's had a bit of pain. The doctor found some swelling in his thigh, which once pointed out was evident but I hadn't clocked it as it was on his little leg (feel terrible now about this).

I thought he was about to tell me it must be a sprain or something but instead he said it needs to be mri'd quickly. I was caught so off guard and didn't think to ask questions. We had a call today to come in for mri this afternoon. Radiographer wouldn't tell us anything except results will be back with Dr in a week.

A couple of hours later we received an appointment back with the for a month from now (the waiting times for the clinic are very long so that's quite rapid).

I'm now in a spin as I have no idea what they needed to look at urgently, what they are worried about or what they saw. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you x

I don't know what it could be but could you call the dr who referred you and ask him for more information? He must have some idea what the possibilities could be? Also, if it was anything very urgent I'm sure the appointment would be quicker than a month so hopefully take some comfort from that.

A month is a long time to wait if it was seriously urgent.

I just thought I'd update as I know how annoying it is when you find a thread that you relate too and there is no conclusion!
Turned out to be a stress fracture. Lots of physio ongoing
