6 year old refusing to take earrings out!

My daughter got her ears pierced for her 6th birthday after months of begging. It's been almost a year and she refused to take them out! She's only supposed to keep them in for 6 weeks.

She won't do it, wont let us near her to do it, can't be bribed, we've taken away her iPad, nothing works. She scared it will hurt.

Any ideas what we can do???

When she had them done first, were they regularly cleaned and turned? So you can be sure they were healed properly? If they were then she's probably fine. If they weren't turned and cleaned regularly then they may have healed around the earring which could be a problem.

The fact your 6 year old won't do what you tell her is a different, possibly more important issue.

I'm surprised her school hasn't insisted that she take them out for PE.

Do they just put a plaster over her ear lobe?

My 2 GDs age 5 and 8 have weekly pe lessons and school swimming lessons ( state school has its own pool) …..school just ask that children wear sleepers/studs not dangly ear ringing or hoops…. No plaster requirement

Goodness me I sleep in my earrings, of course you don’t need to take them out. Give the iPad back.

If they're studs make sure they can rotate freely and the back remains visible.

As a youngster I kept mine in for ages, but they were really tight and eventually the butterfly on the back embedded into my ear.

If you bought her some additional really pretty ones would that encourage her to change them?

Dds school have that rule but don't enforce it. I was surprised as I thought dd would have to faff but they don't seem to care.

I would imagine after 6 months there would be a build up of "gunk". I would have to take them out, clean and replace with new earrings.

Do it when she's asleep

Why would there be gunk? The holes will have healed and would get washed whenever the child's hair gets washed. I dont have gunk in my piercings and my earrings have been in for far more than 6 months

My DGM had had her earrings in for over 90 years when she died.
