Sudden high temperature

My little boy is 3 never unwell, hasn't had a fever in forever, he's been happy and chatty all day and then all of a sudden laying on the sofa with a temp of 39.7.. I've given calpol around 40 minutes ago but it's not come down very much. Seems very sudden and random

Whenever mine gets a fever out of the blue it’s either strep or uti and in both cases the symptoms come a day after the fever starts. I would give nurofen to see if that gets it down and If not take him in to be checked. Calpol never gets fevers down for my little ones. Hope he feels better soon xx
