How bad can growing pains be?
my son is nearly 3 and at least once a week wakes up SCREAMING in pain due to knee pain. It’s been happening for around 6 months. He also often says ‘I can’t walk’ he’s very reluctant to walk hardly any distance at all but will scoot on his scooter.
the dr said definitely growing pains and sent us on our merry way. But I do worry because he seems in absolute agony! Calpol helps but I don’t want to ignore if it could be something of concern

Oh dear! You might want to see a pediatrician and ask to be referred to a specialist.

@squidnames really? My gp won’t refer without a lot of persuasion I don’t think… he’s a very happy boy and has lots of energy but does make the screaming in pain more out of character. But Google says growing pains often wake them at night which is what happens with him!

I agree with previous poster. If you are worried, take him back to the Dr if he's in that much pain regularly for 6 months and struggling with every day walking. You need to ask again and say how worried you are. I'm sure they'll look into it further for you. 6 months is too long!
