Adenoids and Tonsillitis

Winter has not started yet but DD1 troubles with her upper respiratory tract have begun. DD us 4 years old. She has swollen tonsils, severe ear ache and horrendous cough. Every morning she coughs so much and spits out green thick phelgm sorry TMI. The GP prescribed her antibiotics and he says she has swollen adenoids and tonsils but will probably get better with age. I'm so fed up with pushing for an ENT referral. DD most of the times throws up whatever she eats after a bout of cough. Her lips are cracked and she has bad breath. Should she get her adenoids and tonsils removed?. Or should I just wait and watch as she'll be 5 in a couple of months and hopefully her adenoids start to shrink maybe next year will be a good time for her? I'm sick with worry.

I can’t help with adenoids but I can with the tonsils side 💞firstly, I’m so sorry to hear how rotten it is for you and her ☹️My DD7 is about to have her tonsils out following a year of almost monthly tonsillitis (sometimes viral, sometimes strep, 2 x scarlet fever) and constant cracked lips that bleed. Always runs a near fever and seems to catch everything. I was in despair and finally after 7th confirmed tonsillitis the Gp reluctantly agreed to refer to ENT but said quite dismissively that they wouldn’t take them out as it’s a big operation that causes lots of pain and risk of bleeding. Very reassuring🙄
met ENT last week who said she needs them out urgently as once
a child starts to get recurrent tonsillitis it won’t get better on its own. Now I don’t know if that’s the case for adenoids and ears but I’d wager it could be as all linked lymphoid tissue. For us, it was seeing the specialist that finally got a plan in place, the gp wasn’t overly
helpful and she’s had 9 rounds of penicillin in 11 months ☹️
keep pushing, i kept going back saying she’s missing school, it’s all just so awful as I can’t work due to having to care for her being off 2 weeks out of every 5
etc. xx
