Hi all mums,
I am looking for any advice or similar cases and the outcome, please help.
My second pregnancy - my first was a miscarriage ended 4 months ago- and I had my 12 week scan yesterday, it was the first time I had made it this far and when I seen the baby jumping around and the heart beat I got so excited. The nurse stopped me straight away and apologised however the fluid around the neck didn't look normal or healthy, my measuring was 7.3mm and the normal was 3.4mm. She said there was a lot of excess fluid under the baby's skin which they don't like to see and I would need further testing however that is worrying to be seeing at this stage. I have bloods done privately and through the NHS just awaiting results, has anyone had similar cases or experiences? I can't stop crying or zoning out and thinking of all my options with this pregnancy.

Hi Op, I’m so sorry you are going through this. Firstly - congrats on the pregnancy. Secondly, yes I have been in your shoes with more or less the same fluid measurement behind the neck when I was expecting my DD. We were told all this scary medical things and so DH and I plumped for the amniocentesis. Luckily, all was fine - the consultant who did the amnio said that it was either a misreading by the sonographer or it may have been that my babies just had fat necks! I had a DS previously and the consultant said that it was probably the same measurement for him too, but as I was scanned at a different number of weeks to DD, she could only speculate that was the case.

Have they given you a plan of either the harmony / amnio / CVS? Talk it through with the clinical team and see what they advise for you. Take heart that it is not always bad news - my DD is 8 now and perfect. Really hoping it is the same for you x

Hi, thanks so much for ur reply.
We privately booked the harmony testing last night and the nurse scanned me again and Said I was even higher, 11mm now. She said with the increase in fluid I was on high alert and had to come back on Friday morning to be scanned again and monitored. They have spoken about a termination as they have no exact timeline of how long a baby in this condition would survive, which makes me want to go ahead with the termination as that is no life for a child in pain or not knowing how long they have, I couldn't cope with the worry everyday and it would tear me apart. I'm waiting to hear back from my results but I haven't seen one positive story with measuring 11mm, there are people around 4.1mm with worry and to think mine is almost triple what it should be breaks my heart.

Oh OP. I’m really sorry - do what is right for you and I totally understand the decision you need to make. Take heart in the fact that you are doing what is best for you and your baby. You have a handhold from me, whatever the outcome x

Hi, thank you. It's difficult to not feel judged or guilty with the decision, and I will only go ahead with it if my results show my worst fear next week. This is the hardest thing I have ever had to go through and do not wish it on anyone, I'm so happy for you to have gotten your happy ending. Please send prayers that I will be okay through this x

I am sending you lots of prayers and love. Please do not feel judged - it is a horrible decision to make but remember, you are not alone. I remember the worry and stress when I went through it - it literally weighs down your heart and I am so sorry you are going through this. I have everything crossed that all will be well for you xx

I’m so sorry your going through this, I had our 10 week ultrasound on Saturday after 4 years of trying and are first round of successful IVF - they were unhappy with the amount of fluid too but couldn’t measure as it was window to the womb we have been referred to the hospital, im terrified the more I look at the scan the worse it gets each time.

was your scan similar?
